Why I Find Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege DLC So Over-Priced

When Rainbow Six Siege first launched in late 2015 it launched at a full $60 MSRP, Fast forward to 2017 and the game can be found for $25 or even less if you look hard enough. While I give Ubisoft props for making DLC maps free as well as characters and not dividing the player population among those who paid for the season pass and those who didn't. I still think given this year's complication with the lay out of Year 2 makes the $30 price point seem kind of out of place.

The fact that Ubisoft is only have 3 seasons of Siege this year rather than 4 even if it's free doesn't make the season pass entry worth it. You only get early access a week early to the Operators and they are unlocked already for you but other than that, Extra challenges and a Carbon-Fiber Charm for your weapon. I don't see the season pass is really needed especially at a $30 price point. I mean even the game developers that work on Lego Games provide more content with DLC than Siege does and that's only $20 ($10 or less on sale). So with 2 items (Exclusive charm and challenges) that are a nice gesture but not really appealing the only reason to buy the season pass is for early access and for that I feel the price should be much much lower at $10.

I also have a bit of an issue with the price of Digital Skins. I get they take a lot of time to create but at the same time I kind of feel the price of a skin at $8 is a little high. They are different than regular abstract skins and they cover different games however the price for each theme needs to be differed. Skins that have been out for over a year should be lowered over time rather than always $8 because they are older just like games that have released over a year's worth of time generally go down in price because demand is lowered and also stores need to get rid of inventory over time to make way for newer games. Ubisoft needs to apply the same measure towards it's skins. As the demand for a certain type of skin goes down, The price needs to go down as well and Ubisoft has statistics towards how much it's games are profiting so there's no reason why they don't get profit statistics for it's digital content like skins, season passes, boosters etc.

Hopefully over time Ubisoft will adjust the way they do and change generally happens over time but at a slow pace. The thing people need to do is vote with their dollar, If you find a price is way too high for what you get like I have than like me don't get the season pass. Ubisoft will get the hint when they find out how many people bought the season pass as well as other content. Realistically I don't find that most console users will vote to change the way Ubisoft does things in it's price model due to the present demographics of the console user base itself.
