New Tool Recovers Windows Users from Wannacry Ransomware

A new tool released from a 3rd party dev called Wannakey shows promise towards helping Windows XP users recover from the Wannacry ransomware that occurred Friday, May 5th. The tool can reverse effects of ransomware and get files back from victims. Microsoft failed to released the patch that fixes the vulnerability for Windows XP users for free.

The software has been tested to work on Windows XP but unfortunately it doesn't work on other versions of Windows including Windows 10 users and the author of the software has warned that it might not work in every case and it doesn't clean up background memory processes that run the ransonware and enable it to function.

Hopefully this tool will help XP users recover files however I hope that the developer releases software for the other Windows users that were affected.
