How to Add a New Hard Drive to Your Computer

One of the easiest upgrades to perform on your PC is to install an hard drive because all you need to do is figure out the size you need and screw it in place but the hardest part is getting the drive to show up on your system when you first get it. Unlike other devices like consoles, PCs don't just show up a new internal hard drive on your PC. I'll show you the steps you need to do that.

First, You need to go to your "start meun" by clicking on the "Windows" tab in the bottom left hard corner of your desktop and type in "Command Prompt" then click on it.

Second, Once you're in Command Prompt you need to type in "Diskpart" then click "Yes" when you get a pop up like this:

Next you need to type in "list disk", "select disk 0" which is your second hard drive and then "list partition". Now you're in the position where you can create a new partition by typing in "create partition primary size = x"
(X = the amount of storage listed under the "list disk" tab)

So when you create your new primary partition if you have a 465 GB hard drive you want to set your partition primary size as 465000 rather than 465 because otherwise the partition size will be only 465 MB not 465 GB.

This is how your screen should look once you done all these steps (minus the free space error at the end):

Congrats! Now you know how to add a partition to your PC through command prompt that activates your hard drive and you should be all set to go.
