How to Choose The Right Android Phone For Your Needs

S

So many people like you might not know what to decide so I'm going to help you decide the right phone and guide you through all of this non-sense tech mumbo-jumbo.

Screen size

The first thing you want to consider when choosing a phone should be the screen size. Do you want a phone that you can use all in one hand? If so then go with a size between 4.5 and 5 inches. If you prefer to use your phone as a tablet then go with anything between 5.5 and 6 inches.

Differences between screen types

Phones come with different types of screens. Here's the differences between screens and their advantages / disadvantages:

LED - These days this is the most common type of display on the market.
The main advantage of this screen is your get decent picture quality however when viewed from the far ends of the screen you'll notice some backlight dimming which makes the screen change in brightness / contract. The disadvantage is that these displays produce artificial blue light which studies show can have adverse effects on the eyes that in turn can effect normal body function.

IPS Displays - LED alternative In-Plane Switching Displays fix the side to side backlight dimming issue so that you can view the screen from the far ends with no issue of dimming.

Edge AMOLED: A slight downgrade from it's Super AMOLED brethren, This still provides darker blacks and vivid colors but not so much as Super AMOLED ones.

Super AMOLED: This is the best LED display one could get (Exclusively found on Samsung Phones), It provides the darkest blacks and the most vivid colors of all LED displays giving movie viewers and mobile gamers the ultimate experience.

OLED: This is a new LED technology, It seeks to solve the Low Blue Light issue of LED displays that causes issues in the eyes and mild fatigue according to studies by using organic solutions to give off light rather then artificial ones. Due to the fact it's new there haven't been many phones with this new technology and also with the expensive price tag. OLED tech can be taxing on the battery (see the issues of the PSP Vita 1000) so it's understandable that phone manufacturers have tended to stay away from this area for now.

Storage Size

Generally storage capacity determines how many apps, movies etc you can store on any one device so if you are on the go without internet service then perhaps you might want to go with a device with 128gb or one with a expandable SD card slot for the future.

CPU

Snapdragon CPUs are the second best CPUs you can get especially if you do lots of multi-tasking like myself. Currently the top of the pack is an Snapdragon 835 CPU but if you prefer Apple devices then Apple for the most part out-perform Snapdragon CPUs every time.

Samsung CPUs perform for the most part the best on Android devices however Apple takes the top spot over any Android device.

Getting the Right Amount of RAM

This determines how many tabs you can open, Whether you can use 2 apps at once etc. In essence it performs the multitasking function on your device. I would recommend anywhere from 4 to 8 GB because Android devices are RAM resource hogs compared to Apple devices.

Bottom Line

There's many options to choose from. If you text a lot then a really cheap phone could do but if you multitask and game then make sure you invest a little bit more. In this industry for the most part (One Plus and Axon are the sole outsiders) you get what you pay for, It's not the food industry where you can go for bargain prices and get more for your money but you also want to do your homework so you know you're getting what it's worth and not a overpriced device. That's true in the case of Samsung vs OnePlus and Axon.
