How to Get The Best Storage Drive For the Money

HDD vs SSD (Backblaze)

HDD vs SSD

Hard Disk Drives (HDD) are much slower than SSDs and are becoming more outdated as M.2. SSD technology advances in the years to come. They are mainly good for those on a budget and do basic tasks, Nothing complex and the price point for the data you get is a bargain these days since SSDs are becoming mainstream and more powerful.

Solid State Drives are much faster and have between 2 and 8 times the Write / Read speeds as the fastest Hard Disk Drive depending on if you're buying an Sata SSD or a M.2. / M.2 Nvme SSD. In the future the speeds are going to get even faster further putting HDD to shame and making them look like nothing but an ancient relic of the past.

What are Read / Write Speeds

Read Speeds determine how fast your data on the drive is read whether you're load a game or a program on it that you installed.

Write speeds determine how fast you write to the disk whether you're saving your progress on a game or just simply copying data from one partition to another.

5400 vs 7200 RPM speeds

When choosing an HDD you have the choice of 5400 RPM or 7200 RPM drives. The difference mainly is noice and speed, 5400 RPM drives are quieter but it comes at a costs of much slower speeds than 7200 RPM drives so for faster speeds one should go with a 7200 RPM drive.

2.5 HDD vs. 3.5 HDD

Typically a 2.5 inch HDD will are much slower than a 3.5 one but you would only need to get something smaller for a compact machine like a laptop, A Playstation console or maybe a makeshift external HDD that you can plug into your console.
